Scanned Stuff with Clarisse PBR - Siggraph Special

Unread postby xilofoton » Tue Jul 26, 2016 10:22 pm

Hi!

Here are some images I've done in Clarisse 3.0 with the new PBR system:

Before the Pegasus took off ( http://blog.isotropix.net/?p=265 ), Yann from Isotropix asked me to create a case study scene for PBR system demonstration. My concern was to use scanned real world objects with high poly density and big textures in Clarisse, without any further modelling, texture tweaking (except some really basic cleanup of course) to keep the details. So if you've seen these guys @ Siggraph demos, it is not accidental :)

The building and the cobbled street are my photogrammetry work, the statues are laser scanned, freely downloadable here:

HDR environment textures are from here:

Thanks to the artists for their nice works!

These images came directly from Clarisse while I created the comp in it too, including all the fringe/glare/glow, grain etc. I used the ACES colour management system for the entire work including the photogrammetry.

Further details with additional images are coming during the Siggraph.

With these images I also would like to say thank you to the Isotropix team for this unique software!

Cheers!

Thank you guys!
The next:

AnnaStreetMeeting_BronzeAutomaticMaquette_GoldenHours_fakeDOF.03.jpg

AnnaStreetMeeting_BronzeAutomaticMaquette_Reveal_fakeDOF.02.jpg

AnnaStreetMeeting_BronzeAutomaticMaquette_Reveal_fakeDOF.01.jpg
the last 2 are upscaled from half resolution, faster and I like the blurred bokeh noise while similar can appear with real lenses

This is an auto-asset, grabs the entire scene and creates a maquette using the bronze shader with 1:5 scaling. So it updates realtime when you put something new into the original scene. In Clarisse t is simple with a combiner feeded by ./* rule group 8-)

After the pimary rendering there is a next step: it reprojects the rendered image onto the scene objects and renders it with defocus. Nice for shallow DOF closeups to get fast and more noise/firefly free results. This state is not ok for final rendering while it is problematic at the edges and not physically correct. For lookdev and previews it`s good to see the scene with defocus but without disturbing noise. Later i`ll be back with a finalrender friend version if my further ideas are working.

Cheers!

Hi!

The cobbles with PBR are addictive :)

One full render with different focus and different camera angles using the technique that I explained in the previous post.

The last two may be problematic, but for lookdev is quite handy especially when using adaptive proxy modes.

Hi,

I dived into the details of my scene with this dirty raindrop landing.
There is no bump, everithing is geo, it renders in the details of the cobbles/debris self-shadowing as well as nice subsurface scattering modulation.

The geo and textures came from photogrammetry as before, the red cigarette was there too (that`s why I choosed this area to detail it during casting :) )

The view-independent part of the shading is baked and I used the "on-set" lighting as much as possible, but this street is completely shadowed by the buildings during the golden hours so the sunlit parts are totally PBR.
