Geo overrides in shading layers?

Hey folks,

I'm trying to figure out a workflow for surfacers to be able to publish geometry overrides that get picked up in lighting scenes. The shading layer system is very nice, great way for surfacers to define a rule and have for material, clip map and displacement assignemnts.

But what would also be nice, is for surfacers to include geometry overrides, like whether to use subdivision, tesselation level etc. To me that makes sense for surfacing to be able to as some kind of override, when lighting can then change again. i.e. when a surfacer tweaks displacement, half the works is playing with geo attributes.

I suppose lighting can always select multiple geo to set these, and use groups to manage them, so it's not a big deal, I'm just curious what is possible, or if anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears.
