HOW TO USE TEXTURE MAPS WITH ALPHA

Unread postby seanmorgan1962 » Fri Nov 08, 2019 2:46 pm

Hello!

I have another rookie question. I am having trouble figuring out how to use texture maps with alpha (.png) and not having any luck. Is there a transparent material shader similar to the one in Blender? Thanks for any advice.

Cheers!

Hello,

I don't understand what you want to achieve with this map?
Standard, disney, and transmission materials have a transmission input were you can plug a map.
Also you can plug a map file as clip map on a geometry in the material linker.
If you want to extract the alpha channel of a map you can use a reorder node.

Hi, Gabriel,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I should've been more specific. I have imported a tree, .obj, into Clarisse and the texture maps for the branches are .png. I used a standard material and set it to double sidedness so the image IS visible from the underside. I don't know to use the alpha so that only the branches appear and the black edges are invisible.

I will try your suggestions and see what happens.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Hi there,

You have to use your map as a clip map. Use the material linker to assign the map to the selected object.

Sean please don't type your thread title in all caps. It makes it look like you're screaming stuff through a megaphone. My Russian vodka filled blood started boiling a bit. Luckily it started to calm down a bit after drinking some more vokda.

Also please follow the tutorials from the learning section. They are really informative and everything is explained there.
