Scatter a city easily ?

Unread postby Farnac » Sat Oct 31, 2020 10:49 pm

Hi,

Please, I need advices to improve my scattering knowledge in Clarisse.

I use Clarisse as a scatterer from few years now and I'm sure is the best one for forests and things like that.

But I'm not really confortable to use it to scatter cities and I'm interested to improve this part of my knowledge. Please, someone would have advices to obtain a dynamic layout for an american city (really rectilign based on squares) and an europeon city (more messy but with main avenues) ? and how to anticipate props as streetlight, banches, etc... I have friends which use Houdini for this type of work and I'm really interested to try to have the same result and the same flexibility in Clarisse.

For the moment I saw some tips using OSM but I suppose there is some ways to used my own ground or to obtain this result using only Clarisse ?

Many thanks for your help !

Hi,

As Clarisse cannot generate any geometry you need at least some information to drive your scatter.
If you use your own ground, you need to have the street structure included in it.

Let us know from what type of geo you are starting with.

Hi,

thanks for your answer.

So if I understand well, for example I can create a grid, apply a displace on it to create mountains and some flat areas but I can't create some linear procedural street on the flat parts without exporting and editing the geo on an other software ?

Thanks :)

Hi,

You can generate a mask on your terrain with a gradient (mode : slope World) to get all the flat area and use it to decimate a point cloud.
You can now use this point cloud to scatter your street.

I did a quick scene if you want to test it.

Hi,

thanks for your time :)

Yes this is a good start and it's nice to create for example a small village with houses scattered with random but to create a street of a modern city, with really linear street I don't see how to process. Please, do you have an idea ?
