displacement values with random maps in scatterer

Unread postby nandale » Sat Apr 08, 2017 2:41 pm

hi,
I have a point array that I use to scatter a simple poly grid.
I am trying to figure out a way to have each instanced poly grids displaced by a set of textures randomly assigned.
I have tried with a switch texture node, set to randomise. In the input I have an instance color node, set to parent level 1 (no combiners, only one scatterer). In the instance color input I have a random map set to planar project 3D.
The results are quite unexpected. I can see the values are randomised per poly grid but the displacement is not working as expected.

now with random texture values (displacement is not smooth)

I suspect it comes from the project 3D but I can't seem to find a way to get the results I'm expecting (smooth displacement, no displacement when 0.5 value used and displacement in one direction if value = 1 and displacement in the opposite direction when value = 0.

Thanks

Hi Nandale,

This is a limitation, displacement can 't be randomized for each instance.
Instead, you can use the random of the scatterer to add variations.
Just set the rotation variance to 360 in Y and set a step to 180.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
