Request: more procedural noises/patterns

Request: more procedural noises/patterns

Unread postby square01 » Thu Aug 31, 2017 4:32 pm

Hi,
one of things that I find myself doings is using scatter with maps to create organic looks,
although I can get a bit out of clarisse native noises, normally I just bake them from substance or Mari.

I think we should have tons of noises and pattern to help with all the lookdev and scattering tools

ex
Cinema 4d noises
https://help.maxon.net/us/#XSLANOISE

Cant find substance designer reference but It has a lot of noises and pattern with tons of control on them.

Thank you

Johnny

Hi,

Noise patterns are on our road map but we don't have any define ETA to give for now.

Cheers.

Is the code available for the noise shaders from cinema4d, or is it all hidden in compiled versions of the shaders/nodes?

I doubt that there is any code available for that specific sets, but that looks -or similar ones- are not difficult to produce. Almost all the noises you see in that page are variants of some base noises, including -but not limited to- Perlin, Cellular / Voronoi, or iterations of those into fBM or MultiFractal, etc.
The way to achieve them is not so different to basic operations in the code (to the noise or using several noises) and apply the result to different color/value mix outputs and/or layering. Additional looks are achieved making the internal noise parameters driven or modified by other noises.
Its a a whole gastronomic noise science indeed. :)

Excellent request. One great reference for fantastic set of procedural noises is the ones which are part of the Anders Langlands texture sets. A crucial part would also be to enable these procedural noises to be "sticky", via pRef as these arnold textures do. That way they can be used with animated objects.
