$PDIR not resolving correctly in crender

Unread postby bvz2000 » Mon May 08, 2017 11:41 pm

Hi,

First off, I LOVE the new $PDIR behavior. It is a game changer for us with regard to simplifying and improving our asset management.

But, I think I may have found a bug.

I have a referenced asset (clarisse project) that works perfectly within the GUI. It uses the $PDIR variable to locate its maps. So, for example, a texture file has a path like this (where the referenced project lives in /assets/veg/tree/:

$PDIR/../maps/map.png

and an alembic has a path like this:

$PDIR/../geo/item.abc

When I open the project that references this asset in a GUI session, everything renders correctly. But when I create a render archive I get errors - but ONLY on the maps. Not on the geometry.

I get errors like this:

WARNING: TextureMapFile: Unable to load image file '/show/abc/td/shot/clarisse/../maps/map.png

What it looks like it is doing is trying to use the $PDIR for the actual clarisse project I am rendering instead of the $PDIR of the referenced clarisse project. But again, only for maps and not geometry.

Is there any chance you could look into this and at least confirm that it is an issue? Without being able to render on the farm, the $PDIR setting is an amazing concept but we can't start using it yet.

Let me know if I am not being very clear. Thanks.

Hi,
I think you are clear and we are going to try to reproduce this on our side. We'll get back to you soon!

Hi,

We have reproduced your issue and added a new task in our bug tracker(#6879). The issue happens only if there is "/../" inside the path of your reference. You maybe can use this info as a workaround until a fix is available.

Thanks for the confirmation!

I'll see if I can figure out a workaround but I suspect I would rather wait since a workaround that removes the need for /../ would likely require re-structuring all of our assets.

Thanks.

Do you have any idea when this bug might be addressed? It seems to be the single thing that is holding us back from upgrading our Clarisse asset pipeline...

Is this something that is fixed in 3.5 maybe (we haven't had time to test it yet)? We are trying to put together our plans for our next asset management revision and this $PDIR functionality is a critical part of that process.
