Support for SPectral Rendering

Unread postby angdeb » Thu Dec 08, 2022 10:25 pm

The only thing holding our studio back from switching to Clarisse for layout, lookdev, lighting and rendering is the fact that it does not have support for spectral rendering. Spectral rendering is the future and the realism benefit is inarguable.

It is quite frustrating as Clarisse has all of these amazing abilities, Angie was announced, and not one peep about spectral rendering. Manuka, Octane, and etc all support it. While some may like to argue the point, in terms of reality, the difference between RGB and Spectral is night and day.

Please add support for spectral rendering. There is even a Blender Cycles branch that has spectral rendering built in that is in the process of being added into he main Blender branch.

With Spectral Rendering in Clarisse, it is hard to imagine you would have any real competition within your target market, even with USD pipelines becoming the norm.

If it is not planned at all, or is "on the list" can you at least provide some information as to your willingness to support it? We really don;t want to switch over to something like Octane, Gaffer with a custom Cycles Spectral Implementation, or Manuka if Unity ever releases it commercially. Clarisse with spectral rendering is what we would prefer.

Hi there,

I really don't know what to tell you besides Clarisse is targeting the VFX market to make plausible and believable renders. If Spectral rendering is something critical for your type of work then you should then use an existing solution. You shouldn't wait for us to eventually release something since this is clearly not our short term priority.
