Summertime

Unread postby jstein » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:28 am

Hi everyone,
scene setup in XSI,dress MD, the squirrel groom is done in Houdini.
I have a few beginner questions regarding the hairshading workflow in Clarisse, would be nice if someone could help me.
Is it possible to texture your imported strands(one alembic, all strands merged) without using the fur interpolator node?

is there a way to extract the attributes from houdini (f. e. ids, width) in Clarisse and use it for randomizing colors etc.?

and a silly one , but the flatness attribute confuses me completely, the help tells me a value of 1 creates round hair, a value of 0 flat hair, but the slider is in percentage, so if I set it to 100 percent flatness I get round hair(what I want)?

thanks in advance
ciao jürgen

Hi,

Nice image. I really love that fabric <3

Do you export your strands as curves or polymesh ?

You can export your strands with custom attributes from Houdini and then use an extract property node in Clarisse to drive your lookdev.

Cheers ;)

thanks guys

@dboude
the fur from houdini comes as an polymesh, would curves make more sense in Clarisse?
the whole attribute workflow is completely new to me, sorry for the poor question, but how would you set this up Clarisse please?
thanks jürgen

Personally, I prefer curves. You have with curves the control on the tip and root radius, segment count, shape... inside Clarisse. So you can fine tune your hair without re-exporting something.

You can store extra attributes in the Alembic file with the geometry. In Clarisse, you'll be able to extract those properties like in this example. Here I extract a property called Easy Cloud 01 and drive a gradient with it !

So, you can store a color for each curve in a custom attribute and drive, with the extract property node, the color input of the Hair material.

You're welcome

Cheers ;)
