Hi!

I just noticed the new features in SP13 and they seem interesting but they are not much use without proper help and preferably tutorial.

The help only lists them in reference which is the same as can be seen on UI so it does not help.

Switch seems pretty self-explanatory and Normal to Color also, though where it is needed I have no idea. Normal visualization is already in shading modes so it cannot be for visualization only so I'm lost

But the node that sounds most interesting is totally mystery, as far as I know there is (sadly) no curve geometry in Clarisse so how to use the Curve Utility and what it does and where it is needed?

Please explain preferably with examples

Hi Antti,

Normal to color is to bake properly the tangent normal of a geometry. In other words, you can bake the result of bumps and or mixed normal map into a new one.

Curve utility gives you information from curves. Very useful when you render hairs (which are curves).

Ah ok, thank you, that info might be good to add to help too. Also simple quick tutorial/example project wouldn't hurt

Actually, quick tip type tutorial (or simple sample project showing how to use) about all nodes would be great, many of them can be used to do amazing things but it's hard to figure out, which one to use or how to 'misuse' some node to do something cool

I wonder would that tangent normal node provide any help to bake complex surfaces with scattered things into low poly in-game geo / shells with long triangles, rotated face weighted vertex normals and hard/split edges. I love Clarisse scatterers and quick scene creation tools but exporting them as non instanced unique objects just for baking is a pain

I have no comment on that, sorry, but these nodes were briefly explained in the latest live so now I know what they do, thanks Isotropix

Of course still the need for quick tip-type videos for each node in Clarisse is very much needed, maybe you will do that for Clarisse 5?

Yes it's already planned for the Clarisse 5 release.
