Open scene takes hours - dynamic group update

Unread postby machieb » Tue May 10, 2022 4:22 pm

Hello,

we at Cinecite/Trixter have problems with some clarisse scenes, that need hours to open.
Clarisse is only using one cpu core and doing dynamic group updates. See the attached screenshot. Some groups are loading fast, some need 735sec to open. The entire scene opens in 1h20min.
What can I do to avoid this dynamic group updates?
We tried to set all groups to manual update, but that doesn't work, the scene isn't opening much faster (1h).
Is it possible to make the dynamic group update multithreaded? Then it would be much faster?!
We need to use groups because often geometrie bundles update and so we have groups for every reference.

Thanks Marcus

Hi,

Please always specify what Clarisse version you are using when posting about potential bugs.

For starters, if you haven't already, make sure the groups don't use rules that start with * (asterisk). It is best to avoid such rules and to be as specific as possible.
This won't fix all the problems but it does help. Focus on those that take longer if you can identify them.

You can try setting Clarisse evaluation mode to Force Pause, then load the project. But this doesn't disable groups from updating.

If needed, don't hesitate to post a (private) bug report with the project file(s).

Hello Anthony,

thank you for your answer!
We tracked the problem down to one complex shader with lots of nodes. We had to simplify the shadingnetwork and now the scene opens much faster (7min). From one connecton in the shadingnetwork on, opening the scene gets slow and slower when activating this shading network parts.

Cheers

yeah so, clearly there are some bad rules in there... the shader complexity should affect the groups etc... The rules are "listening" too much

Hello Sam,
we set all groups to manual update and the rules where only listening to the same folder, but nevertheless the scene openend very slow.
The shadingnetwork part that made problems was the one that rotates uv tiles and blends them together (seen in your tutorial "advanced procedural texturing"). We blended two of these together. This is a very heavy operation I guess, so we had to remove the blending of those textures. After that the scene opened much faster.
