Subdivion Mode - Native vs OpenSubdiv

Unread postby machieb » Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:01 pm

Hello,

is there a visual difference in rendering geometry and displacements when using Native Mode compared to OpenSubdiv Subdivision Mode in Clarisse?

We recognized a loading speed increase when opening a clarisse scene, when in the Clarisse Preferences OpenSubdiv is set in the Subdivision Mode.

Thanks Marcus

Hey !

There could be some little differences but overall OpenSubdiv is better :)

Thanks Lucas for your answer! We will compare renderings and have a look if we will notice differences.

Hi Marcus,

Just for info, the loading speed difference might be related to the bug #12369 reported by Des.
Currently, the slow loading might be avoided if both Clarisse and Project preferences use the same Subdivision Mode.
When the bugfix will be released, changing the app's pref won't be necessary and loading should always be faster.

Rendering-wise, both subdivision algorithms are different and produce different subdivision meshes as Lucas said.

@anemoff: Thanks for your answer. Because of our high scene loading times I created a example scene. I attached that scene to the bug report with the number: #12425
