Imported files are too big

Hi there,

I have exported a 10x10m plane from 3ds max. After importing to clarisse in order to get the scale right I must scale it down by a 0.01x factor. Units in both clarisse and max are set to metric. Why is clarisse scaling up the models?

Hi,

The metric system in Clarisse is cosmetic. If you want your plane to be 10 units per 10 units you have to set your software which exports the objects to centimeters.

Cheers

Hi there,

Actually none of the import format supported by Clarisse have actual support for units. 1 is 1. I guess your software exported 1 as 100 in the file.

Do we need to respect the Clarisse imported scale so the light is accurate? Or a 200m door will render as good as a 2m door?

If I export a 2m door from maya it will scale in clarisse has a 200m door. Will the door need the be scale down before export from Maya or scale down in Clarisse to match the values I want?

It's always preferred to respect scale to avoid losing precision. Clearly from what you describe, your Maya unit configuration is setup in cm when exporting to ABC.

If you are not having crazy scales, you can simply set Clarisse default unit to cm too. That way your unit in the UI will match what you exported from maya.
