Steve, can you please explain the steps you take to get the guides exportable in Maya using Crate. I'm struggling with this.

EDIT - okay, figured it out. Key thing is to apply nhair dynamics in maya then export the pfxhair item to alembic which combines all the curves together. Quite impressed with the way in which the clarisse interpolate item works. I'm finding I need to set the point cloud density to around 200,000 to get decent looking curve based head hair.

Hi Steve.

I am just running into the same problem. Do you think you could give me hand with this please?

I installed the Crate plugin already and i have multiple curves in maya(converted from Yeti). Just by exporting them with the Crate plugin won`t merge them together i guess. Is there anything else i need to do in maya before exporting them?

Thanks
Bert

Thanky

Hi,

To have merged curves in crate exocortex you have to create a extra attribute for each curve called abcCurveId. Give the same number in this attribute to the curve you want to be merged in one.

Cheers ;)

I need to add it to the shape node or the transform node? apparently it has no effect, I still have separate curves in Clarisse

Meanwhile I found the documentation, and apparently it's broken. Only the last curveshape node gets exported for me, all the rest excluded...Maya 2016.5

Hi,
Do you mean the export is broken in Maya 2016.5?

Probably, I tried to export from 2016 and 2016.6 as well. It looks like that Exocortex Crate export is broken, or I miss something important.

OK, I solved the issue.

Workflow is :

1. Crate hair with xGen
2. Output as MEL file
3. Run MEL file
4. Select resulting curves
5. nHair Make Selected Curve Dynamic with the option of PaintFX
6. Select PaintFX node created
7. Export with Crate
8. Enjoy xGen hair in Clarisse

Another workflow is this:
1. Export ABC from maya as nurbs curves
2. Read ABC in houdini, unpack, and connect a convert node, with default settings, "Polygon", and reduce U value for less points. You can change segment count in clarisse.
3. Write a new abc
4. Load in clarisse

Now clarisse reads all curves as one mesh, and seems to work fine, just change Radius Values to "Use custom values" on the GeometryAbcFur node, otherwise nothing is shown.
