Anyone know what exactly is affected by the sampling quality

Hi,

Does anyone know what exactly is affected by the sampling quality slider in the image view?

Specifically, if we turn it to 50%, what is that doing under the hood, and how could we replicate it by changing other settings. For example, is it a simple multiplier on every sample setting in the scene (i.e. texture samples, light samples, AA samples, etc.)? Or does it only affect specific sample settings, leaving others alone?

it's directly connected to the Sampling Quality that you have on the Image.

I'm reading directly off Image attribute now:
Increase or decrease the number of samples used during a render. It affects what is using sampling: anti-aliasing, materials, lights, textures. This value doesn't actually change sampling values. Original sampling values are kept, this is only a multiplier.

It's different than the other sampling value shown on the image which is Shading Quality, which only affects Materials, lights and textures.

For my use, it's just a way to bring all render settings down, so that you can get quick feedback on final quality render settings for that final test before farm submission.

Actually it's fairly simple. When you set 50% you get 50% of all the sample (light, AA, material...) you've set.

It is also possible to set it over 100%. Can be usefull to quickly increase the quality of a noisy shot, if the farm have more free time than the artists.. :)
