Controlling texture/image saturation by light intensity

Hi,
Is it possible to have the lighting effect the saturation of the textures (the image)? For instance a sphere and a spotlight in the scene with the spotlight pointing directly at the sphere. Then in the image view, the point on the sphere closest to the spotlight would have the greatest saturation, and then the saturation would fall off from there as you move around the sphere since the amount of light is falling off. I hope that I have described the situation adequately enough. I'm trying to create something like this to give that painterly effect of having the areas that receive more light have more color saturation and seem even brighter compared to other parts that receive less light. Thank you in advance for any help if this is even possible.
