3ds Max to Clarisse

Unread postby Miggyy » Tue Nov 19, 2019 1:10 pm

HI , So I am a 3ds max artist, I just started learning Clarisse.

I can bring in Alembic files from 3ds max, But I don't know how to save the materials from 3ds max and bring them to Clarisse.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN6GKmlflek

^ this is on the youtube page, Its not clear how he bought the materials in, I think he imported a .project file.

How to I export my materials from 3ds max to a .project file.

Pls help. My clarisse experience is basically stuck at this point.

Hi and welcome

Sorry but the video is misleading, you can't import any materials other than the regular assigned shading groups. ABC only supports mesh and other abritrary data but not material definitions.

What the video shows is using a shading Layer and a premade shading file that contains all shaders and networks done in Clarisse.
The layer knows what objects are supposed to recieve what material based on rules.

Once you bring the mesh data into Clarisse shading has do be done in Clarisse only.
Some people did scripts to track and rebuild some material settings to a possible extend, but so far no material transfer is possible.

Hope you still find Clarisse enjoyable as it offers a lot :)

Cheers
