ShadingLayers and Material Linker

Unread postby jmccallt » Sat Apr 18, 2020 4:12 am

Hi,

Got a question regarding workflow using Shading Layers and the Material linker

Have a scene with a tree that is composed of multiple parts, branches, leaves and trunk. If I assign shaders in Maya, Clarisse will detect these allowing me to apply materials to different parts in the material linker. But then this inst a SL rule and so when you go to render with your 3D layer having a SL applied the tree doesn't show.

Ive been importing my tree separated into its parts (using a combiner on them to move it around), making a rule for each material (Leaf/bark etc..) that is driver by the naming of the objects and then using this SL to render.

Am I going about this in a very un-optimized way? am I missing something simple and how do you get materials in the material linker to talk to a scenes overall or individual shading layer

Would appreciate any info to put me on the right path!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

I don't get the point. When you apply a SL in the first scenario the tree isn't rendered in the image view ?

The second scenario is a good way to go.

Yeah I think I was over thinking it a little too much Ive ended up using the combiner and the SL with different rules for different materials

Thanks
