up axis for polygrid / card

With Maya and polyPlane shape node it's possible to set the initial axis, which orients all the vertices towards a particular direction. Maya defaults to an axis for polyPlane shape of 0, 1, 0.

With Clarisse there doesn't appear to be any way to alter the polygrid shape to point to a different axis.

The reason I ask is, I need to convert some proprietary data format with translate and rotate values of cards, to Clarisse items. At the moment I need to apply a rotate offset of 90 and then flip the scale Y and Z values f, to make the polygrid cards appear the same size and orientation as the custom cards.

I would like to avoid having to hack the values. Is their some workaround for now. Perhaps in the future Clarisse geometry primitives could have an axis?

The only way to change the axis artificially is to offset the geometry. I don't know any workaround.
There are no plans to add this in the future and I don't know if it is possible with our structure. But feel free to add a feature request to our database.

Thanks Demian. I put in a feature request here

I've been looking at Maya's behavior when changing the axis on a polygrid, and I've been quite surprised. Indeed the spin of the shape changes as we switch from +Y to +X axis (probably the way they order rotations internally). You can see this in the images below. This doesn't seem to allow for any control from artists and we thus don't feel comfortable implementing this in Clarisse.

Polygrid oriented along the Y axis.

Polygrid oriented along the XY axis.

Polygrid oriented along the X axis.

What we might consider doing instead is provide you with an axis preset, only allowing for axis aligned rotations (±X, ±Y, ±Z). Would this be of any use for you ?

Regarding the fact that you have to flip the Y and Z scale, it's probably a handedness mismatch between the software you used to create the custom cards and Clarisse. There is no other workaround in this case than flipping some axes (as a matter of fact, a member of our team had the same issue when adding support to load USD files, as the standard provides settings to change handedness).
