Combining Normal and Bump Maps

Apologies if this is a naive question. From substance painter I have two outputs - bump and normal. How do I combine these via a node network into a single shader?

Hi,

Plug your normal map texture in a texture normal map node, your bump texture in texture bump node. Then you can add them through an add node before going in the normal input of your material.

Adding bump to normal, as is, tends to give unusable results, you may want to tone down the bump by using a multiply with 0.1 to 0,25 max.
The normal and the bump have different roles, normal takes care of the bigger shapes, the bump deals with smaller shapes. Giving them equal weight gives ugly results. That was my experience.

True. But you don't need a multiply node. You can set the bump strength in the texture bump node itself.

Input. By default, it's set to 1m. Just lower that to reduce the bump strength.

That's what I was worried about. What is 1 meter for a bump that's meant for tiny "displacements"? I know what 100% is but 1 meter feels an inappropriate measure for a bump that was born only for the smaller shapes.
I have no idea what is the equivalent of 10% in 1 meter, it's definitely not 0.1 meter. It will take 10, 20 times trial and error just to get close to a desired 10%.
If you were to replace multiply 10% with input value, what value would that be in cm? is there an accurate formula to move between the two?

Mmm 10% of 1 meter is 0.1 meter... Just write 0.1m in the input text field. And there is no magical value, eyes are the final judge.

Most of the time, models come from Maya which is in cm by default. So if you import a model in Clarisse (which is in meter by default) your model is 100 times bigger so a default value of 1m is appropriate.
