Problems with high quality texture loading

Unread postby langosgyula » Sun Jul 12, 2020 4:36 pm

Hi,
I am trying to make a physically accurate solar system and for the closeup shots for a few planets I need 32k textures. When I made these projects (planet by planet) they always worked fine (even the progressive viewport was working fine) but after reloading them, the planet projetcts never start up properly or only after half an hour or more.
I use an average of 5 to 7 pieces 21 to 32k streaming map files and sadly there is no way for me to use lower quality textures.
If someone could help me open these projects in a reasonable time again I would be really happy.
(One more thing: when I set the viewport immediately to simple rendering clarisse works properly again but when I try to start a render, it freezes again)

Hi,
its a little vague as how exactly the setup is made, but i would advise to use UDIMs and TX stream files in chunks of 8k. UDIMs and TX files will already drastically reduce render time based lookup.
If they are not TX files, the streaming filetype won't work properly !
They only work when using EXR, Tiff (tiled) or TX files.
Streamed Map File which is basically the same as the Map File except it streams from disk the input image file. Note it only works on EXR (tiled), TIFF (tiled) or TX files. An utility called maketx can be used to create your own TX files. You can find this utility inside Clarisse binaries directory.

Also have a look at this older thread !

Sorry for being a bit vague, I used tiff files, I had a look at the thread and set at stream texture cache size and increased it to 12GiB which helped with the loading time of the projects. So thank You very much! I will also try the tx/udim approach soon.

If you have one texture per planet having UDIM is not a "must-have". But you should definitively use tx format.

Finally converted all textures to tx with maketx (that took quite a long time..) and now clarisse runs very smoothly despite using 86k textures for earth in 21k chunks. tx really made a difference! Thanks again!
