Aces Color Management. Setup

Unread postby aios » Thu Aug 20, 2020 6:54 am

Hi,
I recently set up my session in Clarisse to work using the ACES color management workflow, following the tutorial from Isotropix, but when i do a render i get this message on the console. (image attached)
In the image i show circled in red how my settings were done, could the error be maybe how i have my textures setup? I noticed that my textures look darker than in substance painter which is were i did the textures.

Thank you.!

Hi,

The warning comes from the Format/Color space mapping. Go to Image > Edit Format/Color Space mapping and make sure that everything is set to an available color space.
Does Painter allow you to work in ACES ? If no, you should notice a slight difference but not too much.

Hi Demian,

Thanks for your reply, i was looking at the FileFormat/Color Space Mapping and not sure where it is supposed to be set as Linear.

I remember i did some changes in this window a while ago so but now im not sure how this was set as default.

Ok, if the issue came from this windows we should see some red lines. So everything is OK here.

Perhaps it comes from the path tracer in which you can specify a variance LUT. Could you check?

Like Demian said, the issue might be elsewhere. Check objects that have a color space attribute (map files, path tracer, ...) and make sure they are using color spaces from ACES and not the default Clarisse built-in ones.

Hi Again,

looking at the textures from my assets and the path tracer, i found that my texture Color is set as Utility-sRGB- is this ok? or it should be set as ACES cg?

Also in the pathtracer i found that the Variance LUT is set as Output Rec 709 but is grey out not sure how to make it editable. Do you think by changing any of this the error i get will go away?

Thanks!

Everything's fine here. To make the variance LUT editable you have to enable the Adaptive Anti Aliasing by setting a Refinement Maximum Sample Count.

The warning comes from another thing.

Btw it's just a warning, it won't break anything.

Thanks Demian,

I was worry that, the warning could make something look bad in the final image.

Cheers!!

I don't like any warning at all but don't worry about it.

You're welcome ;)
