Camera Mapping Problem, AA cause lines

Unread postby NiklasW » Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:13 pm

Hey there,

I posted this before and saw some other posts about this topic. For some people (I saw this technique work perfectly), the camera mapping causes these lines between the two projected images. I know it's because of the antialiasing but I don't understand why it's working some people and for others not...

Maybe we can find a solution in this thread. I really hope we can figure this out, because for me as a MattePainter this is essential for creating an animation out of my DMP.

Thank you a lot!

the thing I find weird about your picture is the buildings you highlighted dont look like buildings, or they look like the mask has more buildings in it. they look like the BG with a building outline.

It seems that only the two of us are very concerned about this

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean... (If you mean what I painted in the mask doesn't look right, you're right because I just painted something in for demonstration purpose) My problem is that the antialiasing causes these one pixel lines between the two projected images. I've seen this method work in tutorials without any of these problems. I followed them step by step.

So any ideas to fix this?

Hi,

This tutorial was not intended to be used for matte painting.
The occlusion option help you only to visualize the area you need to paint.

In fact you have many ways to get around this issue :
- generate the occlusion and dilate the alpha in photoshop or paint exactly what you need
- layer your scene and paint specific matte for each of them to avoid echoing
- use an intermediate camera with overscan to cover the full animation (still with proper layering)

In both of your example I will project a different image for the BG (further you are and more parallax you get) with the blend already done in your 2d software.

We will do later an in-depth tutorial for matte painting in Clarisse.

Cheers.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I was referring to a tutorial from Emilis Baltrusatis for Matte Paintings, which I was following step by step. He had none of this issues, but nevermind.
I watched the camera mapping tutorial aswell, but why don't they have problems with anti aliasing?

There are a few points I don't understand exactly in your solution (sorry english is not my native language):
The first point I get. But can you go for step 2 and 3 a little bit more in depth?

Thank you, that would help a lot!

Hello there,

Why don't you directly contact Emilis Baltrusatis since you purchased his tutorial. He will definitely help you with what you are missing.

Hey,

I did and he helped me, but we couldn't figure out the problem. So I'm asking here for help. As I'm not the only one with this problem happening I was hoping someone knows a solution...

Hey NiklasW, I don't know if I totally understand your problem in enough depth. If you are seeing a black line, you are seeing black underneath that render layer, so something is missing behind? can you isolate this problem with just 2 layers? We can get it sorted I believe it's something simple perhaps.

Hello esmith,

I also believe it's an easy fix! I'm currently rendering... I'll send you an update as soon as it's finished.
