Autodesk Standard Surface Thin Walled no SSS AOVS?

Unread postby machieb » Wed Oct 06, 2021 11:13 am

Hello,

I have a question regarding SSS and AOVs.
When enabling "Thin Walled" on the autodesk standard surface shader the AOVs pbr_subsurface_k, pbr_subsurface_i_direct and pbr_subsurface_i_indirect are black. When disabling Thin Walled on the autodesk standard surface shader they are as expected.
Is that a limitation?

I have trees and grass geometry that has no thickness and want to use SSS and get the SSS AOVs.

Thanks Marcus

Hey Marcus,
SSS by definition only works with volumes/closed surfaces so actually when using Thin Wall and SSS, the SSS is faked as Transmission Diffuse.
You can get the AOV by using a custom LPE like : C<TD>+L

Thank you very much for your fast answer.
I will try the LPE.

Cheers Marcus

You can also use the builtin pbr_diffuse_transmission using the AOV editor
