Yeti hair count

Unread postby Alkay » Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:49 am

Hi there,

I am now testing the latest Yeti relase 4.1.4 in Clarisse 5.0 SP8.
I don't know how to set the number of hair segments in Clarisse or how to subdivide it.
It looks good in Clarisse viewport, but in the final render, the result is different.
You can look at the attached picture. Am I doing something wrong or is it a issue?

The guys from Peregrinelabs told me let ask you.
They think everything is fine with them.

Thanks Petr

Hi there,

It looks like there's an issue with the settings. Since Clarisse 5 there's no longer settings to subdivide the curves. Could you try not to set the viewport in GPU?

Yes, that's how you write. When I turn off the GPU, the result is the same. But the important thing is that this result is not correct. The same Yeti fur cash has the right result in the Maya or Arnold. So the hair must be smooth. This "linear angular" hair in Clarisse is not the right result.

So the GPU doesn't support linear curves and always interpolate them as smooth. If they are displayed linear in CPU or in the render it's because the curves from Yeti are generated as if they were linear segments. It sounds like a bug on Yeti side. Yeti support should contact our support to see what's happening because that's not normal.

Hello

After further investigations, we found that this is a bug on our side. We plan to release the fix in the next service pack coming soon.
There is a workaround to fix it in the current version. You can select your geometry in Clarisse and then run the following script :

Code: Select all
ix.selection[0].get_attribute("tessellation_mode").set_long(2)

Sorry for the inconvenience

Thanks for this temporary solution. It works. I'm looking forward to the fix in the next service pack.
