scatter on vdb's with point cloud

Unread postby ambassador1 » Wed May 09, 2018 6:42 pm

Can we have the ability to scatter on a vdb with a point cloud? Currently I can use the particle paint to paint points on a vdb, and I thought I was able to scatter point cloud points on a vdb in the past, but I guess not. Is this something that can be added...or am I totally missing a step to do this with the point cloud tool. Thanks.

Hey there
Keep in mind that VDB is a format to contain various, arbitrary data and the system to scatter on might need to know what channel inside the VDB you are referring to.

Ideally you can create some surface from Houdini an import it as support geo ?
Maybe isotropix can provide a feature to utilize the extract property with scatter ...

Scattering points on a volume is not supported.. the point cloud is designed to generate points on a surface, not a volume.. currently the only way is to generate an isosurface with your VDB creation tool and export it tot Clarisse as an alembic or obj file...
