clarisse dabbling diary

Unread postby eyellusion » Thu Aug 23, 2018 6:37 am

Hey there,

inspired by Germanobanano´s doodle thread, I decided to create my own little experimentation thread here. I will post stuff that I create and try out in clarisse ... mostly late at night.
Feel free to comment or ask questions, tips and feedback are much appreciated.

For my first little test I played with procedural shape creation with VOPs in Houdini and then using clarisse create little scenes out of it. Since I started with a sphere it ended up being a series of funky little planets:

Thanks guys!
I took the first planet concept a bit further in 3D and touched it up a bit in 2D. Thought it turned out kinda cool looking:

and a greyshaded version, so you can see the geometry:

A little behind the scenes look for the houdini part of it, showing all the geo and VDBs I exported from houdini:

Alright, thats gonna be enough planet stuff for now. I think I will try to tackle a nature scene next, will keep you posted. Also please let me know your thoughts!

Holy cow that's a nice set of renders, is it possible to get a in-depth Houdini tutorial on how you created those planetoid and nebulous objects?

Thanks, glad you like it. While I don´t have time right now to do an elaborate Houdini Tutorial, here is a snapshot of the basic setup for the geometry. Most of the magic happens in VOPs:

Hope that helps a bit, also make sure to take a look at this Siggraph talk by Saber Jlassi, that sparked my interest in this technique:

Thanks for the showing the basic basic set up, and the link to the tutorial, Houdini's complex node based way of working still has me perplexed, I have all this great ideas of things I want to do in Houdini, but I don't have a clue how to pull it off.
