This is an image from my atmospherics tutorial for 3D Artist mag.
These are just spheres scattered with aerial LIDAR point cloud.
The tree in the FG is photo.
Partially raytraced by hand

Same scene but different time of day. The spheres are clearly visible now at the left side...
