Louisiana swamp environment

Unread postby eyellusion » Mon May 04, 2020 1:55 am

Hey there!

a few months ago I stumbled over some breathtaking photos from Mike Reyfman, a photographer traveling through a swamp area in Louisiana. I decided to make that environment the subject for my next CG environment / lookdev exploration. My idea was to recreate the sort of mythic looking place covered in spanish moss and overgrown old cypress trees growing in the swamps waters.

Since this will be a long going project I will keep working on in my freetime next to work I thought I might share the process here as I go along.
Feel free to comment and let me know about ideas you might have, to improve the whole thing.

Lets start with a few of the reference photos that inspired the whole thing (rights to the photography belong to Mike Reyfman)

Somehow, the pictures look like CG. This environment is very uncommon.

Good luck ;)

Yeah that is why I found this so fascinating, such a strange environment and a real place.

Alright, I figured I want to include a small swamp cabin in the scene so I started working on that, here is the progress so far. Still missing some details but its a start. Also playing with Aydan Yanik´s sky rig, its really fun to use!

Looks promising. I would say there is too much displacement on the planks (or bump or normals). They look melted.

Cheers
