Can't Open Application on macOS Sierra 10.12.5

Unread postby cmivfx1 » Tue May 16, 2017 5:47 pm

I'm trying to update Clarisse with the Mac OS X 64-bit version to SP9, however, I'm having trouble opening it...

I've dragged it to the Applications folder and right clicked to "Open", however, I get these errors as shown in the screenshots.

I'm on OS X 10.12.5

I'm guessing this has to do with allowing apps to open from "identified developers." the way around that, traditionally, has been to right click on the file and choose "Open" to tell macOS to open the file anyway, however, that doesn't seem to be working anymore.

I've managed to get Clarrise to show up in the dock. It bounces for a couple minutes and then stops bouncing, but never actually opens.

It appears in the dock, but there is no dot next to it indicating that it's running.

It also appears in the Activity Monitor, but with zero CPU activity, as if it's frozen or stalled out.

Also, licman.app doesn't attempt to open, but just gives the error window as shown in the attached image.

Under System Preferences, in Security and Privacy, under General, there is a setting option to either allow app to open only from the Mac App Store or from "App Store and identified developers." In older versions of the OS, there was also the option to open apps from "Anywhere." That option no longer exists in the latest version of the OS.

Right clicking on the app and choosing "Open" should still allow the user to force it to open, however, there appears to be a bug preventing it from opening somehow.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Hello,

Could you try to open Clarisse with terminal? Go to the clarisse.app folder, open a terminal here and execute this command:
Code: Select all
./clarisse.app/Contents/MacOs/clarisse

Then Clarisse should launch and purpose you to select the PLE mode or run licman (our license manager).

Feel free to go back to us if you have more questions. Regards,

Hi there, i have also a problem to launch Clarisse under Mac OS X 10.12.4, although it isn't exactly the same problem.

Anyway, as you can see on the screenshot attached, Clarisse isn't loading, whatever i try, from a "normal" launch in the Finder to a Terminal launch.
It's always the same, it crashes with a "general failure" and i can't open it, unfortunately.

Hope the terminal and what it says will help you finding what's going on here !
Can't wait to test Clarisse 3.5 and, finally, buy me a license, well if it does work of course !

Keep up the great work,
Cheers !

I've changed directories into /Applications/Isotropix/Clarisse iFX 3.0 SP9 and ran ./clarisse.app/Contents/MacOS/clarisse then nothing happens but a blinking cursor. It seems to stall at the command line until I Cmd-C to exit.

Problem fixed!

Running clarisse from the terminal didn't work, but running licman from the terminal did.

Code: Select all
./clarisse.app/Contents/MacOS/licman

Then I was able to test that licman could connect to the license server.

The bug with launching Clarisse may have occured because my license server was stalled out somehow. I had to...

Code: Select all
kill -9 [pid]
for the license server and then restart it.

Then Clarisse opened.

Glad you solve your problem, mine is still there though !

Any idea coming from Isotropix as to why I get this error message ?

Hi,

By reading the log of the crash, it seems that your OSL library is corrupted. Did you already try to install Clarisse again (download again the dmg from Isotropix website)?

No I didn't to be honest, will do that and report, thanks. :)

In the meantime I have to reinstall my Mac OS X anyway, since I have carried it on a lot of different machines and it's time to do a fresh install.
Will try that and I'll get back to tell if it works now or not.

Hi there.

So I just tried to launch Clarisse PLE 3.0 SP9, after a complete and fresh install of my Mac (Mac OS X 10.12.5, the latest update...) and unfortunately I still get the same error message as the one displayed a few posts back! :(

No way to get Clarisse to boot (I just downloaded it again from Isotropix's website, just to be sure mine wasn't corrupted...), I still get that damn error message!

The weird thing being that I'm sure I already got it to work when Clarisse 3.0 got released! o_O
Perhaps not on the same machine, though, as I change quite often, but still, I don't get what's going on with this... :o

Well I'll wait for version 3.5 to be released now and I'll see, when the PLE is out, if it does want to start on my machine.

Bumping this old thread to post a workaround.

If anyone on macOS happens to encounter the error message "The application ... can't be opened." (usually happens only with licman.app), follow these steps:

Disclaimer: do this only for applications from trusted sources.

1) Depending on your macOS version, you might be able to manually remove the app from the quarantine by going to Preferences > Security & Privacy. There, on the bottom part, you will see a list of recently blocked apps along with a button "Open Anyway" which will prompt your password for confirmation. Once allowed, the system won't ask again until you download and install a new version.

2) If the application isn't listed, execute the following command from a terminal: this command will remove the specified app from the quarantine.
Code: Select all
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /path/to/licman.app

After running the command, you'll be able to run the app normally.
