Decimate texture in point array: what input does it take?

I've tried with a painted image (black and white) but it didn't work I know in the tutorial below (min 2:25) it's driven by a clarisse image, but how can we use just normal images? Say for example I have a layout of a city and residential zones in black to scatter houses, can I just use it in the decimate texture (imported as map file)?

Hi,

A point array doesn't define any UV. You have to use other projection in order to decimate some points.

OK, maybe you can helpguide in the right direction:
1. Where can I use such a plan for house scattering/decimation
2. That image in the tutorial loosk black and white, yet it is a clarisse image made with spheres, how to move from geometry to black and white image the way it was done in the tutorial?

1. You can use this map as decimate texture in your point array but you have to use world spatial projection (planar for example)
2. Just assign matte materials to your geometries...
