how to scale a scene down

Unread postby mettam » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:50 pm

I have built my project too big, and I need to scale it down to 10% of its current size. The scene has VDBs in it so I would want the clouds to keep their internal scale. And also all the lighting needs to move and adjust in a relative way.

I thought I could just put everything in a combiner and scale the combiner down, or parent the combiner to a locator and scale that down. This doesn't seem to work, the lighting looks different and so do the clouds, or maybe its just the lighting.

Any suggestions on how to scale a scene down? Or maybe I am approaching it the right way but there are some things that just down scale?

Hi

It could be way easier:
im not sure why you need this but first you can simply change the projects "distance units" from what it is, to a 1/10th variation.
For example meter to decimeter. This will cause the scene to exists then only at the 10% you wanted.

You can also modify the units.cfg to create a custom size definition.

Cheers

If you want for some reason to scale up or down a scene, you have to parent everything to a locator and scale the locator.

In order to work make sure those following :
- Have "Parent In Place" checked (Preferences)
- All your volumes have "Density Scale Compensation" checked (Attributes Editor)
- All your lights have to be in physical mode.

Not sure it will work at 100% in all cases

Good luck

Great, that helped me as well! I had to model several of these houses for sale in Cyprus for a client who wants to "relook" heavily some of them, and ended up with a file size that was up to four times bigger than what he asked for according to the house  so you really pulled me out of a huge problem, thanks.
